Balenciaga Blanket Bracelet

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

Seen the blanket bags? Take a look at them again, but focus on the top right corner this time around and you’d notice that all items from the Blanket series come with that lambskin band which bears the embossed Balenciaga logo. Now imagine them as bracelets and you’ve pretty much got the Blanket Bracelet.

The perfect addition to the Blanket series, they are longer, thicker and wider, which makes for a pretty solid wrist accessory. The ends of the bracelet are finished in gold metallic hardware that ‘snap’ together, all due to the wonders of the magnetic clasp that keeps it secure when you need it.

Available in a variety colours, they come in 2 sizes, Small and Medium. In Singapore, 3 colours (Black, Olive and Orange) are currently retailing at their Paragon boutique for SGD420 a pop. Online, you’ll find the bracelet over on Balenciaga for USD310 and at NET-A-PORTER for USD285, but if you were to factor in shipping and taxes, you’ll probably find that getting this locally would be the best option.

Tiffany & Co. 2017 Out Of Retirement Collection

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

‘If you want to move forward often look back, otherwise you’ll forget where you came from and where you need to go’ says a motivational quote that’s commonly found online, and it’s also very apt when one thinks of Tiffany & Co.’s Out Of Retirement collection for 2017, a selection of jewellery and gifts that hark back almost 70 years. Named so because Tiffany never discontinues anything, but rather retires instead, the 2017 collection includes pieces from the 1940s all the way to 2003, with a variety of bracelets, cuffs, earrings and rings that looked good then and certainly won’t look out of place today as well on the modern woman.

Besides the jewellery, you’ll also find interesting pieces in sterling silver, one of which (and my personal favourite) is a drinking flask in the shape of a fish, that wittingly pays homage to the adage ‘drink like a fish’. Prices start from SGD505 for block rings in sterling silver all the way to SGD9000 for a pair of 18K gold earrings studded with diamonds, all of which are available now in Singapore for you to check out.

So whether you’re looking for an heirloom piece that’s destined to be passed down through the generations, or something fun with a difference (cue the fish flask), here’s a gentle reminder that Tiffany & Co. boutiques are located at ION Orchard, Ngee Ann City and soon-to-be-opened flagship at Marina Bay Sands.

The 2.08 carat Jane Seymour is one of the few new blue diamonds in the market

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

The World of Diamonds group recently debuted a magnificent fancy blue diamond ring that’s been christened after Hollywood superstar and one-time Bond Girl: Jane Seymour. The 2.08 carat cushion cut diamond is set in platinum ring detailed with flower motifs. Rocks like this are not seen often and they don’t sell cheap. The estimated value of the ring is upwards of $2 million, that’s around 1 million per carat!

The Jane Seymour - I
In its rough form, the diamond was not very symmetrical which meant that careful cutting was essential to preserve the beautiful color. Eventually, after a year of planning and deliberation, it was given a perfectly proportionate cushion cut. Enduring platinum plated with rose gold was chosen to create the setting. 3 masters in Geneva worked rotational shifts to complete the floral detailing of the ring. The Jane Seymour is signed “W.O.D. Genève” and hallmarked “PT950”.
The Jane Seymour - III
Seymour herself sported the stunning ring, at a dinner hosted by World of Diamonds in Singapore. The floral motif of the ring is meant to represent her elegance and grace while the choice of flower -Erodium malacoides- is a testament to her down-to-earth personality.
The Jane Seymour - II
This diamond is set apart by the fact that it is brand new, whereas most blue diamonds that appear at auctions are pre-owned. Moreover, World of Diamonds does not appear to be in a hurry to sell the rock. Instead of putting it up for auction, they would like to vet possible buyers so that they can ensure that the diamond eventually goes to a connoisseur who can appreciate its value.

Swatch New Pop Collection

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

I’ll tell you all a secret. Way before I was Bagaholicboy, way before I even started working in the real world, I was a collector. Well, more accurately, a hoarder. I would collect stuff in phases, with my first real obsession being Swatch watches. Yes, those fun plastic watches that were really cool way back was I was a wee lad. In other words, before Barbie dolls and Madonna memorabilia (do you see a pattern here?), there was Swatch.

And it wasn’t just regular Swatch watches I would collect hoard. There would be limited editions for Easter, limited editions for Christmas. My favourite was something called Eggs Dream Easter from 1992, where the watch came in a bright yellow metal egg. Then there was Christian Lacroix’s 1994 X’mas extravaganza that was limited to just 22,222 pieces. I had both. In fact I had almost 200 pieces in all, scrimping all my allowance and money from part-time jobs (much to my Mum’s annoyance, of course) to buy that next much sought-after and coveted piece.

Along the way though, my interest fizzled, partly because I started obsessing over other things to collect hoard. But one thing I never forgot about Swatch was how affordably fun it all was, these bright and colourful plastic watches that besides telling time, always brought a smile to my face. Oh, the memories…

Which brings us to today’s post. Yes, Swatch is still around, still affordable, and of course, still fun. And with the new unisex Pop Swatch watches (starting from justSGD114 each, by the way) from their latest collection, they are quite multi-functional too. Besides functioning as a wrist watch, you can wear it like a pocket watch (I think you can buy the chain separately), and even hang it up on the wall like a clock (with the base sold separately).

Will it replace my obsession with the J12, Cartier’s new Drive or even my collection of Montblanc watches? Of course not. But for old times’ sake, and the whole idea of it being fun and fuss-free, I just might pick up a few new ones soon. Just don’t let my Mother know.

Chanel: The Art Of Beautiful Watchmaking

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

Having been tasked with the task of explaining the origins of Chanel watches wasn’t going to be an easy one, especially with a timeline that has spanned almost 30 years since its inception in 1987. Think Chanel watches and the first thing that will pop to mind is probably the J12 (which incidentally is one of their most successful watches to date and a favourite amongst both men and women).

The other one that would instantly come to mind would probably be that rectangular one, which has the same shape as the bevelled stopper on Chanel’s No.5. Yes, that would be the Premiere you’re thinking about.

That’s pretty much it, right? No.

If there’s something that’s always constant in Chanel today, it’s that drive to to continually innovate in whatever they do, from 3D-printed dresses (F/W15 Haute Couture) to skin moisturisers made with only 10 ingredients (La Solution 10). It’s the same with their timepieces, manufactured at their facility Manufacture d’Habillage Horloger G&F Châtelain in Switzerland’s La Chaux-de-Fonds, a city that’s synonymous with fine watchmaking.

And that’s not all. Chanel also works closely with master-watchmakers Renaud & Papi(APRP SA), the advanced research and development branch of Audemars Piguet. In other words, Chanel has proven that besides being big on form (and that we already all know and love), they are also serious about function, ie, what goes on inside the watch and winning the 12th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève for best ladies’ watch in 2012 for the Premiere Flying Tourbillon is indeed recognition for that. Something else that I didn’t know before, at Chanel their timepieces are first designed with a specific style and movement in mind, and once the ‘outside’ has been decided, they then proceed on with the insides, even investing heavily in R&D just to ensure it works before form and function come beautifully together in the timepiece.

Accomplishments and accolades aside though, their watches represent Chanel’s vision of time, one that’s closely aligned to Coco Chanel’s own personal philosophy of always ‘living the moment’ and experiencing each nuance of the here and the now.

Which was something I only truly understood when I flew to Switzerland for #BaselWorld recently. Standing alone in its own pavilion amongst hundreds of watch exhibitors spread over many halls, it was clearly a sight to behold, one that encompassed all the codes that Gabrielle Chanel loved dearly.

The watches on display (which will be launched over the course of the year) were pieces that were created to carry on that ethos; one of creating timepieces for every woman, one that’s focused on beautiful watchmaking and most importantly, allowing you to, like Gabrielle Chanel, savour each instant as it happens in the here and now. And so begins my journey into a world that while isn’t completely new to me, I still have much to appreciate, learn and understand, and it’s a year-long journey that I hope you will take with me.

Our Favorite 2016 Festival Fashion Staples To Invest In Now

Categories:Jewelry & Watches

Once spring and summer roll around, you can find festivals anywhere you look. When you plan to go to a music festival, it’s not all about the music you’re going to hear, or even about the crowd of people you are with; something you can’t overlook is the outfit you’re going to wear. Looking out for festival fashion is almost as fun as going to the festival itself, and of course you want to be one of the women people look at and add to their personal “best dressed” lists. To ensure you’re looking stylish when you visit your favorite music festival, here is a list of 14 festival fashion staples for 2016 you should invest in.

2016 Festival Fashion Ideas: What to Wear

1. Vintage Leather Vest

A leather vest is one of the most bohemian garments you can wear, especially when it’s antiqued. This vest from Nasty Gal was inspired by The Beatles’ hit “Happiness is a Warm Gun,” making it perfect for a summertime music festival. The graphic uses color to draw attention, and it would be easy to dress this up or down, so you can be the center of attention any way you want to be. Buy it here!

2. Heirloom Graphic Tee

A simple t-shirt can go a long way, especially when you’re dressing for a music festival. This tee from Free People is semi-sheer, so even if it’s scalding hot outside you’ll still be getting a bit of a breeze. Between the fabric and the simple graphic detail, you can dress this tee up or down to match your style or the weather. It will make a great addition to your wardrobe, due to its versatility for musical festivals and everyday use. Buy it here!

3. Suede Shorts

Suede is so hot right now. It seems no matter where you shop, you’re bound to find at least one suede skirt or pair of shorts. The fashion craze is geared more toward the younger generation, so Forever 21 naturally has a pair of suede shorts available. Zippered pockets make for an interesting aesthetic detail, and could easily be paired with many different tops and accessories, making it worth to shell out a bit of cash to add these to your closet. Buy it here!

4. Levi’s Denim Shorts

Denim is a classic fabric for pants and shorts, so you should ideally have several pairs in your wardrobe already! Regardless if that’s the case or not, Nasty Gal has a fabulous pair of distressed Levi’s shorts that would make a great new garment for any woman. You’ll be seeing a lot of denim bottoms at any festival you attend, so why not snag a pair of your own? You can’t go wrong with a pair of Levi’s, and these stick true to the iconic brand’s aesthetic, so you know you’re getting quality. Buy it here!

5. Lace-up Faux Suede Sandals

Suede bottoms may be a new fad, but suede shoes are a classic staple piece for any wardrobe, especially when it comes to festival fashion. Lace-up sandals are another current fad, and this particular pair from Forever 21 is especially interesting. The sandals are partially enclosed, making it look more like a pair of boots than sandals from behind. This type of shoe is another bohemian trend, so there will be plenty of the style walking around festivals. But buyers should beware; if you wear these sandals on a sunny day, you’ll be in for an interesting tan line, between the scalloped edges, the crossing laces, and half-enclosed shape.Buy it here!

6. Sheer Peasant Blouse

From Nasty Gal, you can find this sheer chiffon, ruffled top. The look can be exceedingly skin-bearing, if you want it to be, or you can add a layer underneath to add a bit more modesty. The top is made with a plunging neckline and is sheer enough to see your skin, or any layer you wear underneath. This is another general look you will run into at just about any festival, but this one ramps up the volume a bit with its ruffles and with the way it falls on the body. Buy it here!

7. Cropped Peasant Top

Forever 21 has another staple item, with its lace-up top complete with a peasant sleeve. The woven fabric makes its own pattern alongside the embroidered florals throughout, and where the top falls makes it perfect to be paired with a pair of high-waisted shorts. The tassels at the ends of the laces are a fun detail as well. Altogether, this look features aspects that are trendy for a festival, like its lace-up detail, the woven fabric, the cropped length, and the peasant sleeve. You can have all these in one, so you’re not left in the dust. Buy it here!

8. High-Waisted Tassel Shorts

This is one pair of shorts that’s not meant for everyone. You have to be willing to stand out in the crowd, and show some skin in the process. The quirkiness of the tassels attracts a lot of attention, which plays up the shortness of the shorts. You’ll be showing off quite a bit of your backside with these shorts, but the tradeoff is just how cute the shorts really are. Dancing will be more fun than usual, just because you’ll know the hanging tassels will be swinging around with you. These shorts, available from Nasty Gal, are a result of a collaboration between Lavish Alice and Lindsay Lohan, so there’s no wonder the netting and tassels made its way into a garment. Buy it here!

9. Espadrille Flats

Espadrilles seem to have always been around, in the background of fashion. They’ve never quite come forward as a fad, but have been stable from the past few fashion eras. Forever 21 has created a pair of espadrille flats in a smooth faux suede, complete with a lace-up top to finish things off with a sporty edge. These are some great shoes for a festival, particularly because they are both stylish and practical. The laces make them more visually appealing, while simultaneously supplementing support, so you can wear them with ease. Buy it here!

10. Breezy Kimono Top

Flowing white tops look gorgeous under the warm sun, which is what makes them so great for festivals. Spending that much time outside calls for a breezy top, and finding one in white only adds to the appeal. This top, from Forever 21, features a light crochet trim, giving a visual breath of fresh air. Its kimono silhouette adds to this by allowing for a cinched waist, making sure your shape is given its best angle, all the time. This top is stunning when paired with distressed denim, as seen in the featured picture, giving a great opportunity to mix the staple looks found in this list. Buy it here!

11. Faux Suede Overall Shorts

Overalls have made a fashion comeback as one of the more quirky fads in recent times. And with suede’s fashionable place in the world as well, it seems natural the two would come together. Both tend to take form as a bohemian trend, so a music festival would be where this garment would feel most at home. With the addition of a braided detail at the waist and cross-backed straps, it was made for warm days. Buy it here!

12. Palm Tree Tank Top

Here is another simple top that would be great at a festival or for any other day. The simple palm tree design is reminiscent of hot spring or summer days, so those seasons are the ideal ones for this tank, which is available from Wildfox. It is made with an extremely light jersey, so it promises to be breezy and comfortable. This is one top you can pair with just about anything, so you can wear it to any festival without too much thought. Buy it here!

13. Buttoned Denim Skirt

Faded denim and button-downed skirts are two fads from fashion eras past, and both contribute a bohemian vibe. Forever 21’s miniskirt featuring both of these traits makes for the perfect addition to any festival repertoire. These types of skirts pair well with crop tops, and can look quirkier by adding some lace-up sandals. So you’ll have some room to mix and match pieces from this list if you invest in this piece. For someone who frequents springtime and summertime festivals, it will be well worth it. It may be hard to imagine wearing a skirt or dress to a setting like this, but the result will be better than you expect. You get the great feeling of femininity from wearing a skirt, and if the fabric is stiff like denim or suede you aren’t sacrificing any mobility. Buy it here!

14. Suede Mini Dress

Finally, everyone needs a fun dress for an event like a festival. This particular mini dress is made of luxurious suede, and features a simple, Western-inspired print, which creates interesting lines around the garment. The dress is available from Free People, and with its soft edges you’ll be a sight for sore eyes. Be careful not to mix and match suede too much, but this dress would look great paired with lace-up sandals, to counteract its retro silhouette. Buy it here!
